Activity Descriptions

Registration
Delegates will register at the conference site and receive their badges, lunch tickets, and conference resources.

Opening ceremony
The opening ceremony is the first official event of IASIMUN. It is an opportunity for delegates to hear from the Secretary General and various keynote speakers. Committee chairs will also describe the scope and historical context of their committee topics.

Committee rules of procedure and opening speeches
Delegates will briefly meet in their committee rooms for opening remarks from their chairpersons and instructions for the rest of the day. Committee Chairs will also review the rules and the conference agenda. Delegates will then read their 1 minute opening speeches describing their countries’ opinions concerning the committee topics.

Informal caucus and resolution submissions
This is an informal session in which delegates can move freely in the conference space to discuss topics with other delegates and begin formulating a resolution. During this time, delegates will submit resolutions to a vetting committee, which will prepare the resolution for debate the next day.

Formal debate in committee rooms
Resolutions that are passed through vetting on the first day will be debated formally on the second day. Delegates will follow the rules of procedure and debate the strengths and weakness of each resolution. Each debate is followed by a vote on the resolution.

Plenary session of the General Assembly
In the plenary session, delegates from all of the committees will meet to debate the resolutions that were passed in the committee rooms. The general assembly will then vote on each resolution.

Closing ceremony
Diplomas will be awarded to participants and delegates will hear closing keynote addresses. End of IASIMUN 2009.
