Opening Speeches at ECOSOC

November 28th, 2009

We are here to change the world!  We are the new generation that fights for its rights and do that in a glorious way.

p6For all the delegates today was a very tough one. We all expect them to find solutions to the country that they are representing. Like one of the ECOSOC Chair People said, “It is our duty to make a better place,” we all are fighting here to make a change.

Why is this event important? We are the future, so, if we want a bright future we need to fight for what we believe – “we have to step into the light,” as the delegate from Turkey said. “We have to be the change we want to see in the world,”  a quote by Gandhi – the most overused phrase in the world.

At the opening ceremony, the Chair of ECOSOC  committee, Liviu Damian,  asked the audience why they are here. As an answer, he advised us to start and think at a better tomorrow and making a difference. That is what the delegates from ECOSOC tried to obtain during the opening speeches. As we could observe, the main issues that we find in almost all the countries are the drug and piracy problems. Discrimination is another important problem that exists in most of the countries. Women are frequently abused by men because they are considered inferior.

The representative of USA thinks that her country is one the most powerful country in the world and it always finds a way to have a good relationship with the other countries. Delegates seem to be very interested in what they are doing and in solving the problems of their chosen country.

All the delegates want to prove that we can change the world that is around us if we really want to. The delegate of Iraq, Lavinia Bejenariu, told us that “In a time where the world faces a global economical crises, we all must be together in order to solve the issue”. That can be one of the most important things that should concern us. How can we create a bond between the countries if we are too concerned about our own issues? Also, she considers the conference a great initiative because it involves the new generation. Change needs time. And through this conference, we give some of our time to the world. We give time to ourselves.
